Location
Yeghegnadzor city is located at the confluence of two rivers, the Arpa and the Yeghegis.  Situated on tall hills overlooking the rivers, the town has been a prized defensive site for thousands of years.  It also benefited from being located on one of the main trading routes of the Silk Road, connecting the Kura Valley with Siunik, Persia and the Anatolian plains.  

History
This area is one of the oldest settlements of Armenia. Here was founded remains of mausoleum in the first millennium BC. The town was historically known as Yeghegik, and in medieval times it was an ancient seat of the Orbelian family (r. 10th-17th cc).  Yeghegnadzor was deserted during the 1604 forced migration of Armenia to Persia.  It remained deserted until the late 18th c, when settlers from Artsakh, Persia and Ottoman Turkey began to resettle the town.

Yeghegnadzor city is rich in valuable monuments and architectural complexes - Aren Astvatsatsin (13th century), Alayaz Zorats and Saint Nshan (13th d) churches, Tsaghatskar (10th centuries), Tanade (13th century), Vernashen Spitakavor Astvatsatsin (12-13th centuries) monasteries, Amaghu Noravank (13-14th centuries), Proshaberd and Smbataberd fortresses etc.

Industry
Yeghegnadzore was a large industrial center. The city's largest company is Relay factory. There are winemaking, stone processing, furniture productions, as well as concrete products, bakery, confectionery productions, etc. The population is engaged in agriculture, cattle breeding, beekeeping, fruit-growing and vegetable-growing.
It has a variety of minerals - felsite, granite, glass, etc.
The motor highway connecting the capital with Syunik region and Artsakh (Karabach) goes through the city.
