Alaverdi is one of the cities of Lori region, laying on the steep slopes of the river Debed, on the Sanahin plain. The climate is subtropical, summer is hot, winter is mild.
Copper industry
From ancient times to our days here is processed copper. The copper industry has increased in the 18th century, when Greek miners came from Gyumushkhane and built Alavardi copper foundry. Տհե Frenchmen have an important role in Alaverdi copper foundry. They installed new stoves and furnaces and opened small copper foundries.
Economy
The Alaverdi copper smelter is the only full-cycle factory in all Transcaucasia.
The Tbilisi-Alexandrapol railway also promoted to the economic development of the city.
There are a number of food and light industry companies. Population is engaged in agriculture, grain, livestock, vegetable and animal husbandry.
